PrintGenerational Tea Party
Pebble Hill Plantation’s first Generational Tea Party was held on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend – May 9, 2009. Young ladies, aged 5 to 12 years, dressed in their tea-party best and came with their mothers and/or grandmothers for the occasion. Guests received corsages, boas, and rings upon arrival and had their pictures made. A guest register recorded their visit.
Tea and pink lemonade were served on the front porch of the Main House. A cupcake tree and an ornamental tiered stand offering a variety of tasty sweet treats graced the food table. Centerpieces consisted of tiaras, beads, and boas on mirror tiles sprinkled with confetti.
The program included a brief etiquette lesson and the reading of Tea for Ruby written by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. Pictures and information about Elisabeth Ireland Poe, Pebble Hill’s last owner, were also shared.
Following the refreshments, everyone gathered under an oak tree on the front lawn for crafts and activities. Making paper flowers and beaded bracelets and decorating bookmarks and Mother’s Day cards were some of the highlights.
The event was a sellout. Plans are being made for Pebble Hill to host this party again next year.
